Being raised in Jamaica, reggae plays a naturally important role in singer Ray Darwin's life. At the age of 12 Ray leaves Jamaica to live with his father in New York. "My dad never supported me, he wanted me to join the Army. I had to work as a taxi driver to make a living. All this really made me angry." But Ray finds a way to express his anger. "I grew up in Jamaica; therefore reggae has always been a natural part of my life. I loved the sound. What really helped me in this situation back then was the music; you could say music saved my life." All the energy, anger and the power of rock music enables him to express his music in a completely different way compared to the rather peaceful und chilled reggae music. From this moment on Ray's passion for rock music began. He discovered Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. Besides being a member of reggae bands he is now also a member of several rock bands. He plays as supporting act for many established musicians like Joan Jett, Ween, B52s and Dan Aykroyd`s Blues Brothers. At the same time he is enrolled at a university, where he takes several classes to form his voice. In 2002 Ray Darwin releases his first solo single in Germany, a great reggae version of the 1965 song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", which was originally sung by the British <b>...</b>Author: napithmusic
