В 16 он уже ловко орудовал вертушками, делал ремиксы, и кроме этого учился работать на недавно купленном семплере. Образование у Armin'а юридическое, однако по специальности он не работает, ведь свою жизнь он всецело решил посвятить музыке. «Blue Fear» - именно так назывался первый трек Armin Van Buuren'a, который принёс ему большой успех и попадание в великобританские чарты. Следующей ступенью стала композиция «Communication», благодаря которой ди-джей имел оглушительный успех на Ибице. В 1999 году Armin решает создать свой собственный лейбл «Armind». После нескольких релизов лейбла под разными псевдонимами, музыкальный шоу-бизнес понимает, что возникает новая студия звукозаписи. Через некоторое время Armin записывает вместе с Tiesto треки на лейбле «Black Hole Recordings», тоже под самыми разными псевдонимами.
